QUETTA: The protesting transporters continued their strike and blocked highways at different points on Wednesday despite assurances of the provincial ministers to resolve their issues in meeting with the leaders of the transporters union.

The transporters were protesting for the last 10 days against the new SOPs for the transporters issued by the provincial government and establishing more check posts at Quetta-Taftan, Coastal highway and other many others routes for ensuring safety of the passenger after the Noshki incident in which 9 people belonging to Punjab were killed by unknown armed men after kidnapping them from a Taftan bound passenger coach near Noshki area.

All kinds of traffic was suspended at various routes due to blocking of highways that caused great difficulties to the people as there was no transport available to reach their destinations.

The bus and coaches owners have rejected the new SOPs of the government saying these were prepared without taking the transporters into confidence and demanded that the government should also abolish new check posts whereas the offices deployed at the check posts check every bus not only one place but at every Checkpost.

However, the Provincial Home Minister, Mir Ziaullah Langove, Minister Agriculture, Ali Madad Jattak, PMA of PPP Liaquat Lehri held negotiations with the union leaders of protesting transporters along with Commissioner Quetta Division, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat late on Wednesday evening.

The Home Minister Langove told the transporters that it was the responsibility of the government to resolve their problems and added that the issue could be resolved with mutual consultation.

“We will take up the demands of the transporters with the Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and after that the issues facing the transporters would be resolved. The Minister for Agriculture Ali Madad Jattak assured that the Chief Minister will have a meeting with the transporters soon in which the issues will be resolved.
