Experts discuss ways to curb Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants

QUETTA: A through dialogue was held on Thursday here in Quetta to discuss the burgeoning Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Balochistan through Iran borders and bonded labor causing life-threats for the provincial youth.

The dialogue was organized by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) in collaboration with United Nations International Organization for Migration UN-IOM and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with the support of Ministry of Foreign Affair of Denmark. Chief of Mission UN-IOM Ms. Mio Sato, Executive Director SSDO Syed Kausar Abbas, Additional Inspector General of Police Muhammad Jawad Dogar, and Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raheela Hameed Durrani, Chairperson of Provincial Commission on the Status of Women Fouzia Shaheen, academia, students, Journalists and members from the civil society participated the dialogue-session.

United Nations International Organization for Migration UN-IOM Mio Sato welcomed the participants in the session with her initial remarks. She stressed upon societal role to prevent trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants risking hundreds of lives through irregular routes.

Addressing the session, ED SSDO Syed Kausar Abbas said, youth in the country is being lured by the human traffickers and smugglers who risk their lives with hazardous journey, “Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) in collaboration with United Nations International Organization for Migration UN-IOM and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with the support of Ministry of Foreign Affair of Denmark taking joint- effective initiatives to aware the communities regarding how the human traffickers risk their children’s lives.

He said, ironically despite knowing the hazards of the irregular migration route, our youth paying millions of rupees to human traffickers and smugglers who lure them with fake and false dreams but put their lives in danger for their own greed.

Speaking in the session, Additional Inspector General of Police Balochistan Jawad Ahmed Dogar said, Law enforcement department particularly Police is doing great for the safety and security of the public and save their lives from the harms of human traffickers and smugglers. He further added that community and stakeholders need to collaborate with Police to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. He also added that Police is jointly working with FIA for the eradication of Trafficking in Person and Smuggling of Migrants.

Raheela Durrani Provincial Minister for Higher Education said, we have to pursuit concrete solution to prevent human smuggling and wipe-out the mafia playing with human lives.

She requested the UN-IOM for a joint venture with the Government of Balochistan to address this issue.
