Zardari sweeps Balochistan Presidential Polls with 47 Votes

QUETTA: Presidential candidate of the ruling alliance from Balochistan, Asif Ali Zardari, succeeded with 47 votes, while Sunni Ithead Council candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai could not secure any votes on Saturday.

The polling process for the election of the President of the country in the Balochistan Assembly was supervised by the Presiding Officer, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, from 10 AM until 4 PM.

After the completion of the polling process, Presiding Officer Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan announced the results, stating that for the presidential election in the Balochistan Assembly, out of the 62 members on the voter list, 47 members cast their votes, while 15 members did not exercise their right to vote.

He said that after the completion of the counting process, all 47 votes were in favor of Asif Ali Zardari, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai did not receive any votes, nor were any votes rejected.

Upon the announcement of the results, the Chief Minister of Balochistan and other members present in the Assembly, including Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola, chanted slogans in favor of Jeay Bhutto of the Pakistan Peoples Party, while members of the Muslim League (N) congratulated the members of the Peoples Party and clapped.
