GWADAR: The local administration and police have uprooted the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) camp set up for collecting donations and relief goods for the victims of recent heavy rains and floods in the coastal district of Gwadar, which rendered large numbers of people homeless.

A spokesman for the BYC said on Saturday that police and local administration dismantled these camps, set up in different areas of Gwadar, late at night, and took the tents with them.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch, who reached Gwadar to extend help to the flood victims, said that these camps were erected for collecting donations and relief goods to assist the families affected by the rains and floods.

She told media persons at the Gwadar Press Club that the people had been severely affected by the massive rains and floods. “A vast area of Gwadar district is still submerged in rainwater, and concerned authorities have failed to drain the houses despite around two weeks passing.”

“People have no other option but to live under the open sky, as they have lost their homes,” she said, adding that many areas were still cut off from the district headquarters, and the roads were badly damaged.

She condemned the uprooting of the BYC camps and stated that there is no need to get permission from the authorities to set up such camps. She said that over a dozen camps have been set up in different areas of Balochistan to help the flood victims.
