QUETTA: The President of the Junior Teachers Association Balochistan, Muhammad Yousaf Kakar, has revealed that around 20,000 teaching staff members are absent from schools. Almost 2,000 teachers are working abroad, taking salaries. More than 20,000 positions are vacant. Only 21,000 teachers are handling the duties and burden of 61,800 teachers.

He expressed these concerns during a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Saturday. Vice President Nasibullah, General Secretary Taj Muhammad, Javaid Ahmed, Khalil ur Rehman, Saleh Muhammad, Basir Ahmed, and others were also present.

He said that apart from a few District Education Officers (DEOs) and Assistant DEOs, most are turning a blind eye. More than 15,000 educational institutions have the required documents, but due to the shortage of teachers, almost 4,000 institutions are closed.

In recent days, 1,793 teachers of Junior Cadre have been promoted to SST posts on the condition of a Bachelor’s degree, which is as per the service rules. However, the Education Department and SE&GAD’s policy of equal qualification for upgrading and promotion is beyond comprehension. Most JVT cadres are being stopped from promotion to SST.

He mentioned that due to the Board Office’s inefficiency, they are appointing favorite individuals for exam duties in centers, which is causing injustice to deserving teachers. For the resolution of all these issues, the Education Minister of Balochistan should play his role and contribute towards the betterment of the education sector.
