QUETTA: Shahid Rind, the spokesperson for the Balochistan government, has said that the provincial cabinet has approved the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill and a policy regarding the Endowment Fund of the Fisheries Department to improve governance.
During a press conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday, Rind mentioned that a meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, reviewed 19 agenda items related to law and order, health, education, and other departments. The cabinet expressed condolences and prayed for the martyrs who lost their lives in the violence of August 25 and 26, declaring such actions contrary to Baloch traditions.
Rind said that the cabinet has categorized the August 25-26 incidents as clear terrorism. He mentioned that steps will be taken to send youth to higher education institutions like Oxford and Harvard. The provincial administration will grant magistrate powers to officers, and assistant commissioners and magistrates will handle fines and punishments during operations.
He further mentioned that the Chief Minister has instructed all secretaries to visit districts immediately. To prevent illegal trawling, 100 Levies personnel will be deployed.
“The cabinet has also approved an e-commerce implementation plan to provide opportunities and access for youth, including women, in global and national markets,” Rind added.
Shahid mentioned that the Chief Minister has directed ministers, assembly members, and secretaries to visit all districts to address public issues.
“The Balochistan Cabinet has approved the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill aimed at improving governance. This amendment will empower administrative officers with magistrate powers to tackle inflation, enhance municipal services, and serve the public interest,” the Balochistan government spokesperson said.
He further mentioned that a decision was made to reorganize the Pasni Fish Harbor, with the cabinet approving the hiring of experts to determine the location and feasibility of a new site. The Chief Minister has also instructed the inclusion of local fishermen in consultations regarding the harbor’s reorganization.
Shahid further added that the cabinet approved a policy regarding the Endowment Fund of the Fisheries Department to enhance resources for fishermen’s welfare and combat illegal trawling. The Marine Fisheries Patrolling Regulation 2023 was also approved to address illegal trawling, and an appropriate increase in the rates of fees related to Balochistan’s solid waste management was also approved.
