QUETTA: Two Levies force personnel were martyred in a heavy exchange of fire during an operation conducted by Levies to arrest an absconder involved in heinous crimes in the Luni area of Duki district on Sunday.

Levies force has arrested the accused, Amanullah Marjanzai, who was also injured in the exchange of fire.

Levies officials said that based on information about the presence of the wanted accused, Levies and a Quick Response Force (QRF) team headed by Assistant Commissioner Duki Zahoor Ahmed Baloch jointly conducted an operation in Killi Marjanzai of Luni area. When the force cordoned off the accused’s house, they began firing on the Levies force.

“Two of our Levies officials, including the QRF team in charge, were martyred in the heavy exchange of fire,” said Resaldar Major Ali Muhammad Shdozai, adding that the bodies were shifted to Duki Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Obaid Ullah Achakzai and QRF in-charge Muhammad Qasim Baloch, who belonged to Loralai.

Officials said that soon after the incident, Levies force and FC personnel reached the spot and conducted an operation against the wanted accused Amanullah Marjanzai. In the exchange of fire, he was injured, and Levies forces arrested him.

Deputy Commissioner Duki, Capt. Fayyaz Ali, said that the accused, Amanullah Marjanzai, had demanded Rs. 100 million as extortion from the contractor who was constructing the Duki-Chamalang road at a cost of Rs. 7 billion. He also snatched machinery from the contractor. Further investigation was in progress.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki, Home Minister Capt. (Retd) Zubair Ahmad Jamali, Information Minister Jan Achakzai, and former spokesperson for the Chief Minister Babar Yousafzai have strongly condemned the killing of the two Levies officials and paid rich tributes to the Levies personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Chief Minister Domki, while expressing his sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of the Levies officials, said that our forces were rendering sacrifices just to protect the lives and property of the people.

He directed the concerned officials to take strict action against the outlaws, as the government will not tolerate such elements.
