QUETTA:  Flash floods caused by heavy downpour in Harnai town on other day damaged scores of houses, including shops, standing crops and drains were overflow and several parts of the town inundated.

QUETTA:  Flash floods caused by heavy downpour in Harnai town on other day damaged scores of houses, including shops, standing crops and drains were overflow and several parts of the town inundated.

While addressing a press conference at Deputy Commissioner House Harnai, Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) and WASA, Haji Noor Muhammad Dummar relayed and said that around 400 houses, more than two-hundred shops were completely damaged by flash flood.

He further said damages were reported in Harnai town and vicinity Zarmana and others, and valuables kept in shops and present in house were also washed away by torrent, while the flash flood has also damaged five-to-six acres agriculture land with standing crops.

Following the situation on emergency basis three trucks of relief goods had been reached to area, survey to calculate damages is underway, while for refurbishment drains necessary machinery was also provided to the concerned, he said adding, relief goods will be distributed among affectees through district administration.

Hailed efforts of paramilitary forces including youth of area, Noor Muhammad Dummar said due to their timely and hectic efforts no casualty was occurred, PC-I for the construction of protective drains on permanent basis had already been completed, while soon funds from Chief Minister special grant would be released.

He also applauded to wealthy people and Non-government Organizations (NGOs) to support affected masses during the widespread damages, he added, officials of the Irrigation department had been alerted and also were directed to speed up refurbishment work of damaged protective drains.

Meanwhile, the provincial Minister accompanying with administration and tribal elders visited the affected areas and examined relief operation and issued directives to concerned authorities on spot.

Deputy Commissioner Harnai, district President Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Malik Israr-ul-Haq Tareen, Abdul Nasir Advocate, Haji Ghulam Jan Tareen and district officers were also present during the press conference.
