OKARA: Over twenty persons have on Monday drowned as a boat capsized in River Sutlej. The incident occurred in Okara district’s Depalpur city near Pakistan-India border.

According to details, eight dead bodies have been recovered from the river whereas ten people have been saved. The rescue operation by official teams and locals in large numbers is ongoing to find the missing persons.

Assistant Commissioner Depalpur and DSP reached the incident spot and are monitoring the rescue work. On the other hand, emergency has been imposed at the THQ Hospital Haveli Lakha upon the directions of Deputy Commissioner Okara Maryam Khan.

The police maintained that the identities of the victims were not immediately known. Furthermore, the officials are investigating into the matter to find out the reason behind the unfortunate incident.
