QUETTA: In Balochistan’s jails, about one and a half hundred prisoners have been exposed to chronic diseases, while the province’s prisons lack medical facilities.

QUETTA: In Balochistan’s jails, about one and a half hundred prisoners have been exposed to chronic diseases, while the province’s prisons lack medical facilities.

According to the sources in prison department, about 150 prisoners are infected with chronic diseases, but prisons lack better facilities, as there is no access to laboratories in any of the prisons except two prisons. Though, none of the prisoners have filed any application for the treatment outside of jail.

Two thousand prisoners in Balochistan are in jails,   out of those 36 AIDS and 110 prisoners are affected with hepatitis-related diseases. On the other hand, 11 prisons in the province have no basic facilities for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

According to the officials, there is a mini-lab in the central jail Mach and district Jail Quetta in which tests for common ailments can be done, but requires assistance from other departments to diagnose sensitive diseases and curing them.

In these prisons Compounder treats inmates instead of doctors.

While IG prisons Balochistan Muhammad Yousaf has said that none of the prisoners have put any application for the treatment outside jail.
