Once again drug dealers are making it up in the streets of Lyari with complete impunity since last year. The area is mostly populated with labor class who were always been the victim of top political games and gang violence for many decades and now they are witnessing the same flashback from past. Virtually the defamed area is surrounded by six police stations but yet law enforcing machinery seems quite sleepy as always.

The law-abiding citizens have been out-crying as they do not want to experience another rise of gang-war as all the gang leaders have risen up from the street drug dealings. It’s not that simple, the drug-money generated from all these street dealings can put everything upside down, and for sure we have already gone that road..

However, this issue is raised by different representatives, intellectuals and artists on different platforms but all in vein.  Some of the Civil society activists seem to be genuinely worried about the situation as they are at least recording their protests on social media.  Though, it’s quite clear that we could not afford more conspiracies to deface the ghetto once again. Conventionally, all these elements were always patronized by the political parties for using them as militant wings to terrorize their opponents as city already witnessed mass killing of it citizens in this gutter politics.

There is no wonder that among these  marginalized people some turn out to resort to addiction of deadly drugs in order to isolate themselves from society but there is a dire need to engage them in rehabilitation centers to avoid more loss of human lives. Indeed collective efforts are required from all segments of society. The law enforcement agencies have to map out and eradicate them before it starts spreading down to our roots.
