QUETTA: The Provincial government have declared rain emergency in Balochistan after incessant rainfall and flooding in several parts of the province killing nine people on Monday.

At least nine people including a child were killed in Balochistan after torrential rains and flash flooding hit major parts of Balochistan.

The rainfall in Quetta, Gwadar, Chagai, Harnai, Duki, Jewani, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Sibi, Barkhan, Chaman and other districts of Balochistan caused flooding in storm drains and nullahs which severed land lank of various areas in the province.

The low-lying areas have submerged in Kohlu due to continuous rainfall in city and the adjoining areas.

The rainwater has caused flooding in Nari, Bolan and Lehri rivers and various nullahs in Sibi region. According to sources, the Nari river presently flowing at low flood with 29000 cusecs of water, while the water flow at river Lehri has been recorded at 6600 cusecs and at Bolan river 3000 cusecs, an official of the provincial irrigation department has said.

Distirct Administration along with FC Balochistan rescue six people went to Bolan for picnic after flash flood hit the Bolan river.

“The Government of Balochistan and PDMA have clearly directed all Deputy Commissioner to keep keen eye on flood situation while we have already warned public from picnicking and unnecessary travel across the province following incessant rains.” DG PDMA Balochistan Imran Zarkoon said.

According to the details At least three people died while twenty-three others, including policemen were suffered severe injuries in multiple dust storm related mishaps across the province on Monday.

The devastating incidents occurred on Quetta-Karachi national highway in the Windar and Ghadani areas of district Lasbela, where nearly five passenger coaches overturned due to heavy dust storm, resulting three people died and injuring more than twenty.

Following the incidents, rescuers reached the site and rescued all the victims to a nearby hospital, later the bodies were handed to families after completion of medico legal formalities.

Likewise, a police vehicle was on its way to rescue the affected passengers, when it reached near to Ghadani Jail due to speeding driver lost his control and the vehicle overturned, as result three cops including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Haroon sustained wounds.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Cold weather has returned in Quetta with torrential rainfall as the met office has forecast more rain during next 24 hours. Dozens of feeder tripped in the provincial capital causing 8 to 10 hours electricity breakdown while gas pressure turned low.

Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Gulistan, Jangal Pir Alizai and Dobandi also receiving rain for last four days, which was resulting in flooding in rivers and nullahs in the region. The low-lying areas also submerged in rainwater.

The rainfall has also caused losses to the standing wheat crop in several areas including Jaffarabad, Dera Allahyar and Usta Mohammad.

Metrological department has predicted more rains and flash flooding in Balochistan for next 24 hours.
