QUETTA: At least six coal mine labors were killed and 19 recued unconscious as a coal mine collapsed in Dukki on Monday due to an explosion inside the mine caused by deadliest methane gas.

QUETTA: At least six coal mine labors were killed and 19 recued unconscious as a coal mine collapsed in Dukki on Monday due to an explosion inside the mine caused by deadliest methane gas.

According to the Station House Office Dukki Ibrar Hussain, a coal mine in tribal area of District Dukki was collapsed midnight of Monday when coal miners were digging for coal about 1700 inside the mine,

“Due to presence of fatal methane gas inside the mine an explosion occurred which collapsed one side of the mine leaving six workers dead inside the mine.” Ibrar Hussain said added 19 workers reprieved unconscious during rescue operation.

The mine workers in the area commenced relief and rescue operation on self but due to lack of rescue equipment and facilities the workers faced hardships while going inside the mine as the collapsed mine was filed with methane gas.

“Two coal miners hailed from Afghanistan who entered inside the mine to pull out the bodies couldn’t make and killed due to severe intensity of fatal gas.” SHO Dukki said.

The mine workers complained regarding delays in rescue operation by Mineral Department alleged that the mineral department officials reached Dukki after 14 hours without any rescue worker added only one mine inspector and a clerk reached the spot to tally the bodies and injured.

After 19 hours of rescue the bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Duki for medico legal process later the bodies had been departed to native towns for burial.

“Despite constant incident of coal mine explosion the provincial government and mineral department were not serious to ensure safety measures for coal miners.” President Mine Federation Shair Muhammad Kakar said.

He added, we haven’t any medical facilities, rescue equipment even ambulance which risking other workers lives who participates in rescue operation during any incident.

In last two years Balochistan remained on top for coal mine incident which killed hundreds of people in the province. In 2018 hundreds of coal mine workers were killed due to deadliest explosions inside mines.
