The Balochistan Government had announced 29,000 jobs for the jobless people which had been widely welcomed by a cross section of the people with the hope that only the rightful people will get the jobs.

Balochistan Information Minister Zahoor Ahmed Buledi has said that the cabinet’s decision to fill 29,000 vacant posts in provincial departments will increase public trust in the government. They highlighted that the cabinet had decided to recruit people in all departments and instructed their heads to ensure merit and impartiality in the process.

Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal has said plans are being finalised under the public-private partnership to eradicate unemployment in Balochistan. Previous regime announces that the Government would provide 35,000 jobs proved to be a hoax and a propaganda ploy to hoodwink the public opinion. It is on record that the top bureaucrats were found reluctant to recruit people and fill the vacant posts since Balochistan was given provincial status or there was a Provincial administration.

According to an official announcement, the Administrative Secretaries of the Provincial Government had been given the task to recruit the aspiring people purely on merit. The Government is yet to clarify the issue that what will be the role of Ministers and MPAs who, in the past, remained the complete masters on all appointments regardless of grade and position.

In the past, the Secretaries of the Administrative Departments remained under threat of immediate transfer if they dared to defy the orders from the Ministers for making recruitments other than the nominees of the Ministers. The rights of the people should not be violated in any case and justice should be done by selecting only deserving candidates against all posts.

Thousands of jobs remained vacant and newspapers had been reporting those vacant jobs and it were never filled for unknown reasons. According to reports, Balochistan Railway department received 16 thousand job applications for 90 vacant posts.

The province has been facing the issue of unemployment for over a decade now as people are still dependent on the indigenous life still livestock, agriculture and informal trade and on government. According to a rough estimate by government of Balochistan, there are over 30,000 young people who graduate every year and a vast majority could not get a job which is matter of a serious concern.

There are many schools which are run by single teacher. This is a serious issue and chief minister should personally monitor each and every district by asking the district education officer to compile a detailed report about the attendance and performance of the teachers and students.

Thus the Government jobs should not be sought for earning a salary without performing any duty. The good governance demands tough action against the ghost and corrupt employees. The Provincial Government should ensure transparency and fairness in fresh recruitment of people for the available 29000 jobs in the Government departments.

Hopefully, the Government jobs will not be auctioned by the influential and powerful people at any cost and the Provincial Government and mainly the Chief Minister will establish his writ on the issue of good governance refusing any wrong doing this time. The NTS should also improve its image and performance and there should be no complaint against it in this case rejecting the influence of interested quarters both officials and political.
