Mehmood Khan urges Pashtuns to unite for addressing challenges

QUETTA: The Chairman Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Mehmood Khan Achakzai has said that constitutional route is significant in the relationship between the State and citizens of the country, which also guarantee the rights of the masses.

While addressing the large gathering at Sadiq Shaheed ground during 45th death anniversary of Khan Shaheed, Mehmood Khan proposed four steps Jirgas of Pakhtuns to deliberate upon the challenges currently faced by them.

Mahmood Achakzai said that martyrdom of Khan Shaheed was observed in such circumstances that the blood of the Pashtuns is everywhere in the Country. He further emphasized that he believed in non-violence and peaceful struggle but Pakistan needed to be a genuinely democratic federation where people enjoyed constitutional guarantee of their fundamental, political,

economic and cultural rights. He added that no ethnicity, class or individual should be considered superior to others. “And for that reason alone, I am not ready to live my life as a second category citizen.”
Current government has no vision for progress and development of the country and it has been exposed within 100 days after assuming power. Achakzai cautioned the military establishment of Pakistan and categorically stated that no general, brigadier,

colonel or any other army personnel had the right to interfere in politics. “You have a specific duty and your role and requirements should be determined by the people of this country.” Achakzai said that he is in favour of equal and just rights to all the national groups and nationalities with maximum autonomy to the Federating Units. He said he was not opposed to Pakistan demanding equal and just rights for Sindhis, Balochs, Seraikis and Punjabis along with the Pakhtuns.

Mr. Khan said, “This is our country and our loyalty is to a federal and democratic Pakistan where equal rights of every nationality, ethnicity and minority is guaranteed by the Constitution which the state should hold sacrosanct and supreme.” Chairman PKMAP said that some powers show scant respect for Pakhtun life and property and are victims of imposed death and destruction on the Afghanistan as well as Pakistan side.

“Pakhtun are not terrorists but love their land, we should erase these stereotypes and concocted image,” said Mr Achakzai.  He proposed an international conference of Pakhtun to deliberate upon the challenges currently faced by them. He said that province established in linguistic basis in Pakstan and his party would continue its struggle for a Pakhtun province from Bolan to Chitral.

Regarding peace in Afghanistan, Achakzai said that in order to establish peace in Afghanistan, sovereignty of that state should be the sine qua non respected by all the powers involved. While elaborating it further Achakzai said that the world, including the United Nations, should match its efforts which they did against the USSR in the name of jihad.

“They helped to arm and organize the jihadi against the USSR and now they should also help to reverse that by making genuine efforts for the Afghan led peace by discouraging foreign intervention in Afghanistan.
“A conducive environment needs to be created to enable the Afghan to bring peace to their country,” Mr. .Achakzai suggested.

Senator Usman Khan Kakar of PkMAP while speaking on the occasion criticized the current government for its lack of democratic credentials and inefficiencies. “Currently, civilian martial law is in force in the garb of civilian dispensation. Unfortunately the parliament is tightly controlled and the media is undergoing worst form of censorship,” lamented Mr. Kakar.

Senior leaders of PkMAP, Nawab Ayaz Kahn Jogezai, former Senator Abdur-Rauf Lala, Provincial President Senator Usman Kakar, Obiabullah Babit, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Nasarullah Zerey and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.

They paid rich tributes to the Khan Abdul Samad Khan Shaheed and underlined the need to fallow the footsteps of the Shaheed leader and his political and ideological philosophy for the protection of the rights of people.
