QUETTA: Following the call by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) Journalist community in Quetta took a procession on Tuesday against downsizing in print and electronic media industries.

The Balochistan Union of Journalist and Quetta Press Club staged a protest called “Save the Media Movement” in front of Quetta Press Club demanding job security for media workers. The Protesters chanted fully throat slogans against economic murder of media workers particularly the lower staff.

Numerous media organizations have sacked dozens of their staff and plan for a large scale downsizing in media industry triggering concern among media workers regarding their future.

“The Newspaper owners bearing financial woes as the central and provincial governments have barred advertisements therefore the downsizing continue in print media industry.” President QPC Raza ur Rehman said adding we can’t let anyone to commit economic murder of our workers.

He added, the lower staff of any newspaper or channel plays backbone role, but after establishing the business the owners commenced sacking them which is the actual violation of human rights.

The Journalists community with slogans against media censorship and downsizing demanded immediate relief for the sacked employees vowing to intensify their movement against media workers’ exploitation.

Social Activists, Lawyers and members of Civil Society participated in the protest to express their solidarity with media community.

Addressing the protesters Vice President of PFUJ and Senior Journalist Saleem Shahid said, on the platform of PFUJ we have been striving to secure the due rights of media workers whether print or electronic media,

“Incumbent downsizing and forced dismissal endangering the future of poor media workers therefore we all have to get united to save our jobs.” Saleem Shahid added.
