GWADAR: As the fishing season begins, illegal trawlers have started to enter the waters of Gwadar district. In Jiwani, these trawlers are operating without fear, harming marine life and the livelihoods of local fishermen.
Videos of the trawlers, taken by local fishermen, have gone viral. The Fisheries Department and Marine Guards have failed to curb these trawlers, causing significant distress among local fishermen.
According to reports, on Wednesday, trawlers involved in illegal fishing were observed inside 12 nautical miles, ruthlessly killing marine life. Local fishermen have reported that the Fisheries Department and other marine protectors have failed to safeguard their livelihoods, leaving them dependent on meager earnings due to the unchecked fishing of marine life.
Local fishermen have noted that, as the fishing season began after a two-month ban, the deadly trawlers from Sindh have once again headed towards Gwadar’s waters, threatening the livelihoods of millions of fishing families.
