First ever online Poomsae Championship 2020 Kicks off

KARACHI: At a time when the COVID-19 has made sports impossible Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF)

has taken lead to organize the first ever online Taekwondo (Olympic Martial Arts) in the country.

Over 400 taekwondo poomsae athletes from all age ranges, eight to 50 years, are featuring in the six-day event that will conclude on May 20, 2020 making it a huge success.

Foreign based Pakistani coaches are also participating their athletes in this first ever Online Championship 2020. Other than overseas Pakistani athletes, players from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, USA, Jordan, Russia, India, Philippine, Kazakhstan, Sudan and Nepal are also featuring in this prestigious event.

The online event will also set a new trend for the other sports in the country as well pave the way for innovative ideas to engage in sports during these tough times when people are mostly confined to their homes.

The Federation is struggling to promote Taekwondo Olympic Martial Art Sports and give maximum exposure to youth at National / International Level. Federation has also expressed its gratitude for the support extended by co-sponsors AAA and main sponsor Hankook.

The Federation has full support of President of Pakistan Olympic Association who has fully backed the idea during online meetings with the different stakeholders of the National Sports Federation NSF, and also urged other legislatures to follow. Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination IPC and Pakistan Sports Board has also been informed regarding this championship and final results will be sent accordingly.

The organizers also thanked Omar Saeed, President of South Asian Taekwondo Association, Ahmed, President of Pakistan Taekwondo School Wing, provincial taekwondo associations and parents of athletes for their whole-hearted support for making the event possible.
