Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the centre and provinces to formulate a comprehensive strategy to protect the rights of students and resolve their problems on an immediate basis.

In a series of tweets, Awan said that the young generation was an important asset and hope for the future. “The realisation of dreams of the youth is a central mission of Prime Minister Imran Khan,” she tweeted.

She said that the demand of rights by students reflects their surging awareness and thinking.

“Our students are the force which will bring new ideas, vision and dynamic leadership in the coming times. The youth of this country is prepared to meet any challenge,” she added.

On Friday, thousands took to streets to demand reinstatement of student unions, demilitarisation of campuses and a 10 per cent increase in the education budget across various cities throughout Pakistan.

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had announced his support for the restoration of student unions across the country.

“I fully support the restoration of students unions as ban on student unions is anti-democratic,” Chaudhry had tweeted.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also tweeted in support of the Student Solidarity March, and praised the new generation of students for their “spirit of activism and yearning for peaceful democratic process”.
