QUETTA: Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Balochistan, Rashid Razzaq has said that a special polio campaign will be launched after recent reported cases.

A seven days polio campaign will start in 6 districts of Balochistan. Polio campaign in Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Sohbat Pur will kick off from 22nd July while campaign in Quetta and Qila Abdullah will formally begin on 29th July, Coordinator EOC Balochistan Rashid Razzaq said in statement.

Two cases have been reported from Balochistan, one each from Qila Abdullah and Jaffarabad, forcing EOC to initiate another special campaign.

More than 0.5 million children below the age of five will be given polio drops. 2827 polio worker teams are to be deputed with 147 fixed side and 180 transit teams, Rashid Razzaq said.

Pakistan and Afghanistan remain only two countries who are yet to eradicate polio virus, as many areas of these countries are still possessing polio virus. 45 cases have been reported in Pakistan in current year so far.

Officials are hopeful of cooperation from all stakeholders in eradication of polio to end a crippling virus from the country.
