ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant to Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan has said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government is taking all measures to restore the lost glory of the country.

Addressing a press conference in Sialkot, she said contrary to this, Sharif family has earned a bad name for the country by its involvement in money laundering and corruption at the international level.

She said a story published in the British newspaper Daily Mail is an evidence of the corruption of Shairfs who not only looted the taxpayers’ money but plundered even the aid by foreign donors meant for the relief of earthquake affectees.

The reaction came after Britain-based newspaper Daily Mail exposed an alleged money laundering scandal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and Shehbaz Sharif from the UK government aid for earthquake victims in Pakistan.

According to a confidential investigation report seen by Daily Mail, millions of pounds were transferred into the bank accounts of Shehbaz’s family members, including his wife, children and a son-in-law.

The newspaper states to have interviewed key witnesses held on remand in jail, including a UK citizen Aftab Mehmood.

Mehmood claims that he had laundered millions on behalf of Shehbaz’s family from a nondescript office in Birmingham – without attracting suspicion from Britain’s financial regulators, who inspected his books regularly.
