A day before the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is set to launch its full budget, Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again urged the non-filers of tax returns to fully avail the asset declaration scheme and help uplift the economy.

In a message broadcasted live on national television, the premier said the people can declare their assets and accounts under this scheme by June 30 adding that after this period they will not have a similar opportunity.

He further added that the information that the incumbent government has regarding fake bank account is like nothing the previous governments has.

“We have signed agreements with different countries on the matter,” he stated.

He said most of the loans are utilised to repay installments due from earlier debts and reiterated the importance of paying taxes and declaration of assets.

Imran recalled that the country’s debt ballooned Rs30,000 billion from Rs6,000 billion over the last decade.

“The rising debt had a major fall out on the masses as we collect about Rs4,000 billion in taxes, of which half of the amount goes to the debt servicing”.

He said the remaining amount is not sufficient to run the affairs of the country.

The premier maintained that Pakistan is ranked amongst the few most charitable nations but in terms of payment of taxes, it ranks far below.  He said the nation has the capacity to generate Rs10,000 billion in taxes.

He underscored said the country cannot be uplifted unless the people pay their taxes and asked people to pay taxes for a better future of their children.
