ISLAMABAD: Former police officer Hussain Asghar will be made the chairperson of the anti-corruption commission earlier announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan, sources informed on Tuesday.

The prime minister had earlier announced to constitute a “high-powered commission” to probe corruption of last 10 years in Pakistan.

According to sources, the commission will be constituted soon to probe corruption.

Currently, Hussain Asghar is serving as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Accountability Bureau.

As a police officer, Hussain Asghar also served as Director anti-corruption establishment Punjab and the Federal Investigation Agency.

In his post-federal budget speech, the prime minister put the blame for economic woes of the country on former governments of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He explained how the two former governments had been involved in corruption and burdened the country with huge foreign loans.

The prime minister said the two political parties entered into an alliance and kept bringing a chairperson of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of their own choice.
