Balochistan remained an ignored province for the past 70 years and all its needs and requirements for future economic development had been disregarded or overlooked presumably to keep the region backward and its people poor for unknown reasons.

The Balochistan government should make efforts to exploit huge volume of renewable energy sources of the province through renewable energy technologies like wind power turbines, biogas plants, microhydel power plants and solar thermal devices. In the past, the government planned to undertake the following projects for development of the renewable energy resources including installation of windmill and solar energy systems Sunrays are highest in the province, as annual average mean daily solar radiation is at 5.9-6.2KWh/sq.m in Balochistan.

While speaking at ceremony held at naval War College’s 46 staff course participants CM said” Balochistan has 700 kilometers coastal belt and have capacity to produce wind and solar energy for the country,” Chaghi is top in list for solar energy which could produce 20 percent of energy for country’s energy system. Balochistan through wind and solar energy have capacity to produce 35 percent energy for country’s national grid system.

The Previous provincial government took no interest in building a decent infrastructure for future economic development. Electricity is an essential factor and as no investor will come with a power plant to operate his factories and mills in place like backward Balochistan. It is the State that should provide the necessary infrastructure and later invite the potential investors to Balochistan.

Future economic and industrial development is linked with adequate and uninterrupted power supply to the industrial and commercial consumers. For this, the Government should prepare a five-year plan extending the power transmission line to all corners of Balochistan covering the most important human settlements with potentials for development.

The plan should be prepared by the Ministry of Water and Power and hand it over to QESCO for implementation under the supervision of the Chief Minister and other high officials of the Provincial Government. All those QESCO officials implementing the plan should be made accountable before the Balochistan Government for any mischief or fault so that it should not be referred back to the Federal Government for action. The QESCO engineers and officers should work under the nose of the Chief Minister and other senior officials keeping in mind the strong opinion of the local people.

There is a need to develop solar technology on priority basis as roof top solution idea is the only solution to the problem of common people and in remote corners of Balochistan. Similarly, Nokkundi and its adjoining region in Iran and Afghanistan are rich in wind power where 30 knot per hour wind is constantly blowing round the year which can meet the need of the entire region if wind power is tapped.  The same region is also rich in mineral wealth and all the major copper and gold wealth are found here. There is no dearth of subsoil water resources in the same region which could be exploited using solar or wind power.

Balochistan is considered the fittest place to establish solar and wind power plants. Stormy wind is blowing constantly and round-the-year near Nokkundi where huge power plant based in Wind energy can be established. Small villages found at some distance should be given the roof-top solutions by installing a smallest unit to ensure power supply.

All the educational institutions and Government hospitals, clinics and healthcare centres should be provide solar energy so that they should function round-the-clock with solar power. It is the duty of the Centre to build the needed power transmission line at the earliest with the task to engineers and officials in Quetta to complete it under the supervision of the Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal.
