Public awareness urged as HIV cases reach 5000 in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Provincial chief of the Aids Control Program Dr Afzal Khan Zarkoon has said that the number of HIV/Aids patients in Balochistan has crossed the 5,000 mark, a situation creating uneasiness among people.

QUETTA: The Provincial chief of the Aids Control Program Dr Afzal Khan Zarkoon has said that the number of HIV/Aids patients in Balochistan has crossed the 5,000 mark, a situation creating uneasiness among people.

While addressing in the Ulma Seminar regarding the Aids Control Program stated that the prevention of this disease has become necessary in Balochistan. Thereby, religious scholars, civil society and media should play their role in creating awareness among people about this disease.

He said, it is a bit difficult for Balochistan government to lonely fight against this disease. The religious scholars, civil society and media should collaborate with government to control this disease.

Owing to the unawareness about this disease, scores of people relate this disease with sexual relations. Rather the causes of this disease are many. He added.

Director Health Department, Dr Mohammad Hayyat while speaking in the seminar stated that the religious scholars can play significant role in the prevention of this disease in the light of the teaching of Islam.

He said, as the large numbers of religious scholars have participated in the semainar. That’s why, the religious scholar should create awareness among this disease through the teachings of Islam.

Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan by its areas, while by population, Balochistan is the smallest area of Pakistan. The presence of such a large number of patients of HIV/Aids in Balochistan is an alarming case to be noticed immediately. He added.

Dawoud Khan Achakzai while briefing the participants about the numbers of patients in province stated that the number of registered patients is 1133 while overall the 5000 patients are affected from this disease.

He said, addicted people including unnecessary sexual relations and unchecked blood donation leads this disease.

The large numbers of religious scholars including people from other walks of life were present in the seminar.
