KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Saturday said additional security had been provided to Mufti Taqi Usmani after the terrorist attack.

Sindh Governor met Mufti Taqi Usmani at Darul Uloom Karachi and inquired about his health after yesterday armed attack.
Governor strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the renowned religious scholar in Karachi’s Nipa Chowrangi.

Later, talking to media, Ismail said that the government security could not be provided to all persons but prominent people deserved it as terrorists targeted them. He hoped and said the joint efforts by the rangers and police had brought peace to the metropolis.

Referring to martyred police guard in the Friday’s incident, the governor said police department was taking all possible support for martyred police family.

Talking to media, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam said some links had been found regarding the attack on Mufti Taqi Usmani and the suspects would be arrested soon. Regarding the martyrdom of a police official during yesterday’s attack, IGP said, several Sindh police officials had been martyred and the provincial government offered the best compensation to the victim families.

Mufti Taqi Usmani, a former judge of the Federal Shariat Court and brother of Mufti Rafi Usmani, and his family survived a gun attack on two cars that left a police guard and a driver dead and two others wounded in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s NIPA Chowrangi on Friday. According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Zone Amir Farooqi, police guard Farooq and private guard Sanobar Khan, son of Shaukat Khan, were killed in the attack.
