Successive Governments in Balochistan had failed to deliver for the past five decades as they lacked capability and experience to develop province on modern lines or meeting the basic needs of the people of the province.

Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan directed authorities to proceed in Quetta Development Package according to need of citizens and address the public reservations.

Charing a meeting to review the progress of Quetta Development Package Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has directed authorities to expedite construction on Quetta Development Package.

Provincial Information Minister Zahoor Buledi, Additional Chief Secretary for P&D Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta, Secretary Communication, Commissioner Quetta and Deputy Commissioner Quetta were present in the meeting.

Traffic problem in the provincial capital has turned into worse and bad administration and encroachment has increased public woes but roads’ expansion and action against illegal encroachments could resolve traffic issues.” Jam Kamal said while addressing the meeting directed authorities to make sure quality construction in Joint Road, Sariyab Road and Sabzal Road expansion.

Jam Kamal announced that he would visit the construction site in coming days and would announce final decision.

The past Governments in several decades had made mess of the things concerning economics or economic planning in the province and they wasted all the money and resources available for development.

The culture of ‘cut and paste’ was introduced in planning preparing fictitious and junk documents in the name of economic development. The most incompetent people were assigned the task development to this date.

Rulers or the chosen representatives of the people were found disapproving economic development through planned and calculated efforts, whatever planning done in the past.

The Federal Government was reluctant to provide relief to the most backward province of Balochistan where poverty is rampant.  The then Central Government had adopted a hostile attitude towards Balochistan and refused to provide any financial relief to the province and recovered the principal amount along with interest on commercial or market rates.

Some of the main arteries of Quetta are also being widened to reduce the impact of congestion on roads such as Saryab Road, Sabzal Road, and connecting Join Road with Samungli Road via Chaman Phattak area. However, the traffic problems of this city would remain unchanged unless government comes up with some proactive planning than short-term plans.

The packages at least, allude to this fact. Undoubtedly, any plan, big or small, brings some positive changes in the appearance of the city and also relief to the masses. The examples of two flyovers are cases in point that have addressed the issues of traffic-jam, if not fully but to a greater extent.

They are bound to make suggestions on the floor of the House and the Ministers in the Cabinet meetings only. The remaining job is for the Chief Minister who is the real Chief Executive of the Province. The Government will have to take a final decision that the resources of Balochistan are for the Members of the Assembly or for the broad masses that should be used on development.

The incumbent Government should build the basic infrastructure of future economic development of the province. The task of development, mainly the spending on economic schemes, should be the responsibility of the Government where more than 80 per cent funds should be used.
