QUETTA: A three days Anti-Polio campaign will be started 21 out of 33 districts of Balochistan from Monday next (25th March) in which the polio teams would administrate police droops to more than 1.7 million children.

The Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan, Rashid Razzaq said this while speaking at a Press Conference here on Thursday. “We have completed all arrangements for the Anti-polio campaign,” he said, adding that 6845 teams would take part in the anti-polio campaign and vaccinate children under the age of five.

At least 5960 mobile teams, 488 fixed points and 397 transit points have been deployed in 21 districts of Balochistan to make sure that all children should be administered with polio drops. Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan Coordinator said every individual whether male,

female or children would be vaccinated with anti-polio drops while crossing the gate added the Government of Pakistan has termed mandatory anti-polio drops for all at Chaman border from March 25.

Every month around 40,000 children crosses Pak-Afghan friendship at Chaman border, thus the route has significant importance in terms of administrating children with anti-polio drops. “From March 25, 2019 we are going to start anti-polio vaccination of all individuals at Chaman border, children below the age of 10 have to be administrated with polio drops whenever they cross the transit points while individuals above 10 would be vaccinated once in a year and will be issued polio vaccination cards.” Rashid Razzaq added.

In physical year four new polio cases appeared in Pakistan three from KPK Province and one from Punjab.
The World Health Organization had imposed strict travel restriction on countries including Pakistan on May 2014 to prevent the possible threat of spread polio virus. Since the inevitable ban, Pakistani nationals were being administrated with anti-polio drops at all International Airports.

“Security arrangement for the anti-polio campaign has been finalized as Frontier Corps Balochistan, Police and Balochistan Levies personnel are taking part in providing security to the polio staff.” Rashid Razzaq added that religious scholars are also taking part to persuade the parents who normally refuse to administer the polio drops on religious grounds.

The three days anti-polio drive has commenced in Quetta, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Barkhan, Bolan, Chagai, Dera Bugti, Duki, Jaffarabad, Jail Magsi, Khuzdar, Qila Saifullah, Lasbela, Loralai, Mastung, Musakhail, Nasirabad, Sherani, Sobatpur, Zhob and Ziarat. Quetta, Qila Abdullah and Pishin Districts have been declared as High-risk areas where polio virus is still active and endangering children for lifetime disability.
