QUETTA: A delegation of United Nations’ mission headed by Mr. Markus Werna called Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Wednesday at CM House assuring full support to control drought and public relief.

QUETTA: A delegation of United Nations’ mission headed by Mr. Markus Werna called Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Wednesday at CM House assuring full support to control drought and public relief.

The UN delegation comprising on WFP, UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, UNDP, FAO and members of SPARCO Pakistan met CM Jam Kamal and discuss how to decline drought affects in Balochistan and immediate relief and assistance for people living in drought hit areas.

Provincial Ministers, Zahoor Buledi, Meer Zia Langove, Meer Naseebullah Marri and concerned department’s secretaries were present in the meeting.

Director General Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan Imran Zarkoon briefed the delegation regarding drought situation in the province and relief and rescue operations.

During the meeting the UN delegation has assured its full assistance for malnourished women and children in drought affected Districts and announced to start a nourishment program.

The meeting was agreed upon to launch short-term, mid-term and long term programs in Balochistan that would be completed with the support of UN and its sub-organizations and donor agencies.

“Lack of rains from last ten years caused drought situation in Balochistan which affected Agriculture and Livestock sector of already impoverished province, while majority population living in drought hit areas indulged into economic woes.” CM Jam Kamal told the delegation added the provincial government need mammoth of funds to provide basic facilities in remote areas of country’s biggest province in term of land.

The Government of Balochistan has assured full cooperation and complete access to UN Organizations and Donor Agencies for their assessment in drought hit areas while provincial government decided to facilitate International Agencies of One Window Operation.

CM Jam Kamal said, the drought has declined water rapidly in Balochistan therefore the government has expedite focusing on building new dams for water storage,

“The Government of Balochistan has been focusing on Climate Change and preparing safety measure to save the province from climate change affects,” Jam Kamal said added the government has been utilizing earnest efforts to produce good governance while we have established Food Security Department.
