QUETTA: The Mayor Quetta, District councils and Municipal Committees have accused bureaucracy for creating hurdles in working of local bodies institutions and in resolving the problems of the people during last four years and stopped releasing funds before ending of local bodies term.

Speaking at a joint Press Conference here on Saturday, the Mayor Quetta Dr. Kaleemullah Khan Kakar, Mayor Khuzdar Mir Abdu Rahim Kurd, Chairman District Council Pishin Essa Roshan, Chairman Qila Abdullah Malik Usman Achakzai and Chairmen of other district and Municipal Corporations, have announced to stage protest sit-in in front of the Balochistan on January 12 against the injustices of the bureaucracy did with the local bodies institutions.

They said that despite our struggle for the getting powers since taking oath of their offices, the concerned authorities denied the powers to the Mayors and Chairmen and created hurdles in the way of local bodies. They said that they had taken up the issue of local bodes powers at every forum and approved the Supreme Court of Pakistan but remained failed to get our due rights.

“We had demanded to make the local bodies’ partner of the provincial government giving 40 percent development funds to these institutions,” Dr. Kaleemullah Kakar said, adding that the government and bureaucracy were utilizing the local bodies’ funds instead of releasing funds to the local bodies’ institutions.

The mayors and District and Municipal Committees chairmen claimed that concerned local bodies’ officials has stopped finding to the local bodies before ending of their term. They demanded that the local bodies’ term which is ending on January 28, should be extended till Mach 28. They expressed the hope that Chief Minister Jam Kamal will accept our demands and will make local bodes’ institution empower and their funds would be released.

They said that the government has reduced the funds of local bodies. The government had allocated Rs. 6.80 million for the local bodies’ while in the current financial year, Rs. Rs. 400 million ware slashed from the share of the local bodies.
