KARACHI: The lifeline of the Sindh health department, lady health workers, face harassment issues while performing duties in the metropolis’ Korangi district.

Over 350 lady health workers have been working in Karachi’s Korangi district and face harassment on a daily basis.

Since the change in the political landscape in the area, the town health officer has been replaced with a district health officer (DHO) following which complaints have been received.

Some lady health workers have complained regarding not receiving their arrears, while others have complained of being harassed at the DHO’s office.

Kharunisa Memon is one of the many lady health workers who has launched a complaint against DHO Dr Ali Asghar and his accountant over alleged harassment and bribery. The two reportedly resort to harassment and demand money from lady health workers who want their data forwarded to the AG office to open their accounts.

Dr Asghar categorically denied all the allegations and said that the process has been done in accordance with law.

However, to investigate the issues, Secretary Health Usman Chachar has constituted a three-member committee.
