QUETTA: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri on Thursday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) thousand volunteers would step forward and work with officials of Quetta metropolitan corporation to launch a successful “Clean and Green” campaign in Balochistan .

He expressed these views while talking to Mayor Quetta Dr. Kalimullah Khan Kakar and Deputy Mayor Quetta Muhammad Younis Baloch at Quetta Metropolitan Corporation here today.

He urged members of the civil society to compliment government’s efforts to raise awareness in the society about sanitation and environment.

“Youth should be engaged and other segments of the population to plant more trees, keep their neighborhoods clean and ensure no waste is thrown on the streets and roads Deputy Speaker NA Qasim Khan Suri said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has also formulated a committee comprised of 15 national assembly members, with a purpose to review the municipal system and bring reforms to strengthen the local bodies.

The federal government would fetch several administrative reforms in the local body system in order to make it more sustainable and financially strong.

Mayor Quetta Dr. Kalimullah applauded potential steps taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan for resolution of public issues and said that comprehensive reforms in municipal system would enable local body members to work for the development of the districts more effectively at grassroots level.

He further said that due to insufficient funds and lack of basic resources Metropolitan Corporation in the past was not able to perform its duties properly.

Qasim Khan Suri said the federal government in the first phase would introduce a local body system in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under which the Mayor and chairman will be elected directly from the public’s votes.
