QUETTA: Hundreds of thousands fishermen took the roads of the new port city of Gwadar on Friday for the protection of their centuries old profession fisheries.

QUETTA: Hundreds of thousands fishermen took the roads of the new port city of Gwadar on Friday for the protection of their centuries old profession fisheries.

Fishermen alliance arranged the rally which also attended large number of women, workers of different political workers, members of different NGOs and civil society. The rally started from ‘Dhoria’ a settlement of fishermen in Gwadar and participants who were carrying banners and placards marched on the main roads of the port city. They were chanting slogans in favour of their demands.

President BNP-Mengal and Begum Allah Bakhsh a female leader while addressing the participants have expressed their apprehension and reservations about construction of Gwadar East-bay-expressway and said that it will affect fishing on the eastern coast of Gwadar.

They said that despite their reservations, the concerned authorities have not taken steps to remove their apprehension regarding their centuries old profession through which they earn bread and butter for their families. “Fishing is the only way for earning money.”

They said that it their constitutional rights to protect their profession and job.  They said that they are not against the constriction of east-bay express way but want that authorities should also protect their interest and means of earning bread and butter.
