QUETTA: The working parameters of Balochistan Nutrition Program are needed to be extended throughout province, so that we could remain successful in achievement of the standards of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by international community.
There are severe challenges related to the proper nutrition of mother and children that require prudent measures from government on emergency grounds.
The interim Health Minister of Balochistan, Faiz Kakar while presiding the meeting of Balochistan Nutrition Program said, Balochistan Nutrition Program is serving only in six districts, the services of the program are needed to be extended to the other remote areas of Balochistan.
At the occasion, Director General Health Services, Shakir Baloch, Chief Planning officer, Abdul Rasool Zehri, the head of Balochistan Nutrition program Balochistan, Ali Nasir Bugti and others were present in meeting.
While briefing to the participants, Ali Nasir Bugti said, food scarcity is a formidable challenge that multiple under developing countries are facing throughout the world. The chronic diseases related to it are impediment in the smooth socio-economic development of any country.
He said, According to the survey of 2011, nearly 16.1 percent children are unhealthy and mal-nourished and 52 percent children are dwarf due to several medical conditions related to poor nutrition while 40 percent children are under weight respectively.
He said, the mother labor days till the days of childbirth deserves much significance.
The health minister in his concluding remarks said, there is need of co-ordination between these health-related programs and monitoring of these programs is also necessary. However, in this regard steps would be taken very soon. He said steps are being taken to establish cancer and cardio hospital in Balochistan.
