QUETTA: Senior Police officer Hamid Shakil was killed along with two others as a suicide bomber rammed his two-wheeler with the police vehicle in Chaman Housing Scheme, Quetta on Thursday forenoon.

QUETTA:  Senior Police officer Hamid Shakil was killed along with two others as a suicide bomber rammed his two-wheeler with the police vehicle in Chaman Housing Scheme, Quetta on Thursday forenoon.

He was moving towards his officer from his residence when the suicide bomber riding a motorcycle rammed it with the police van, killing all the victims on the spot.  Two other policemen were his guard ASI Mohammad Ramazan Mohammad Hasni and driver Jalil.

Nine other people sustained multiple wounds from splinters. Police investigators and members of the Bomb Disposal Squad found and unexploded grenade, official sources said

DIG Telecommunication Hamid Shakeel’s convoy was targeted on Thursday morning while he was heading towards office after leaving the residence at Chaman Housing Scheme adjacent to airport road.

At least nine people including three policemen sustained injuries in the spate of attacks against Police force since this year.

“DIG Hamid Shakeel was moving to the office when the suicidal rammed himself with the vehicle of Hamid Shakeel Sabir, three people Hamid Shakil Sabir, ASI Ramzaan Muhammad Hasani and the driver Jalil martyred in the attack.” SSP Operations Naseebullah shared the details at the crime scene.

Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the responsibility of killing the DIG in a statement released by the terrorist group.

Rescue workers, Law Enforcement Agencies and Bomb Disposal team rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to Combine Military Hospital and Civil Hospital

“Approximately 12 to 15kg explosive material was used in the attack and a hand grenade was defused on the crime scene that was in the hand of the suicidal and couldn’t exploded.” BD team said.

Hamid Shakil Sabir joined Police Force as DSP in 1988 and served on key position of the department including SSP, DPO and SDPO. He was performing his duties as SSP Traffic and recently promote as DIG communication.

CM Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri, Provincial Home Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Speaker Raheela Hamid Durrani many tribal and government officials condemned the attack and showed grief for losing an honest officer.

CM Balochistan has directed the authorities to tighten security measure across Quetta city to avert any further attacks.

Police released CCTV footage of the blast in which Hamid Shakil’s vehicle was seen being targeted by the suicidal.

Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, IG FC Balochistan Nadeem Anjum, IG Police Moazzam Jah, MPAs and Police Officers participated in the funeral of Hamid Shakeel Sabir and other martyrs in Police Line Quetta.
