QUETTA: The Federal government has closed the Precision Systems Training Centre Quetta due to the deteriorating law and order problem in the provincial capital, according to the orders available with Balochistan Express issued by Pakistan Council of Scientific and Research Center.

As many as 243 students from different parts of Balochistan have so far been qualified for award of the DAE certificate and all these passed out Associate Engineers have been gainfully employed in Pakistan & abroad.

The closure was criticized by officials and politicians as Balochistan already lack qualified manpower in technical field while institutions are much lower than the other provinces. “It is really disappointing,” an official of the center said while providing the copy of the order to this correspondent. “Balochistan has few such centers and the closure of this center for any reason is not justified,” he said.

The Technical Center was established in Quetta in 1987 by Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & technology with a cost of Rs 63.646 million. It was further upgraded training and, others facilities with a cost of.39.00 million rupees in 2003-2006 on Mastung Road, outskirts of Quetta.

The centre was producing specialized manpower in the field of Precision Mechanical & Instrument Technology. Regular Training Conducted is of DAE level of 03 years duration.

According to the orders issued by Pakistan Council of Scientific and Research Center, PSTC, Quetta may be closed till the improvement of law and order situation in Quetta.

It stated that all the 14 students currently enrolled in PSTC for DAE courses, may be shifted to PSTC, Lahore or PSTC, Karachi, after obtaining the options from the students PCSIR will bear the cost of accommodation and fee for the students till they complete their courses.

The objective of the center was to organize and conduct three years D.A.E. courses in Precision Mechanical & Instrument Technology for 30 students. It organized short term courses of 3 to 6 months duration for engineers and technicians employed in industry and local technical institutes.
