QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the assets of the government will not be wasted under any circumstances and urged all citizens of Quetta, including lawyers, to support the government in improving Quetta.

He expressed these views during a visit to the Circular Road parking plaza along with Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Rind, Commissioner and Administrator Quetta Hamza Shafqat on Friday.

The Chief Minister said that there is not elevator in the 7-storey parking plaza and the plaza’s work is also incomplete, following which contractor suspended and an inquiry has been ordered. By activating the Circular Road parking plaza, we have earned 1 million rupees in a month. A hotel will be built on the roof of the plaza with public public-private partnership. He said that the municipality will build a parking plaza in the meat market, after which the central market of the city will be turned into a walking street. He said that traffic police will be provided with lifts from the private sector.

In response to a question, the Chief Minister said that there is a shortage of resources in Balochistan and the available resources are not being used properly, which does not benefit the public. We will improve Quetta’s sewage, parking, and drainage system. He said that the Metropolitan used to get 6 thousand rupees from the Circular Road parking plaza, but now it has increased to one million rupees. Instead of serving the public and the government, people engage in corruption for their own benefit.

The contractor has been given advance payment and has fled. Now we are working to improve the plaza. He said that the citizens of Quetta need to clean the city during the cleaning of Double Road, tires are being removed from the drains, and the public also has to demonstrate responsibility.

He said that 5 million rupees are allocated for the maintenance of roads in each district, which is eaten up by corrupt people. We have to introduce a new mechanism under our current resources, and we can generate revenue through Mines and Minerals, Metropolitan Corporation. He appealed to the lawyers to also support us. There is a rent of 55 rupees in the municipal plaza. Lawyers should also reconsider their rents. He said that the rent for the café in the municipality is 6 thousand rupees. We will vacate it and build a modern café where people from different classes can sit. The Chief Minister said that Commissioner Quetta has been instructed to conduct an assessment of the design flaws and improvements in Sariab Road. Investigations into the attack on journalists are ongoing, and instructions have been issued to the relevant SP to arrest the culprits soon.
