QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai has convened the first session of the 11th Balochistan Assembly on Monday (today).

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai has convened the first session of the 11th Balochistan Assembly on Monday (today).

The assembly will meet at 11 a.m in which 62 out of 65 members would take oath as MPA. Speaker Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani will administrate oath to the newly elected members.

Nomination papers for the slot of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Balochistan Assembly would be submitted for the election on these posts the same day in the afternoon.

After the election of the speaker, the outgoing Speaker, Ms. Durrani will take oath from the new speaker and will hand over the seat of the speaker to the new elected speaker.

Secretary Balochistan Assembly Shamsullah has said that the new speaker will conduct the election of the office of the deputy speaker and would take oath from the new deputy speaker after his election.

The six parties’ alliance, including BAP, ANP, HD, BNP-Awami and Jamhoori Watan Party had already jointly nominated Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo for the slot of Speaker. However, the alliance has not so far announced the name of deputy speaker.

It is learnt from sources that another parliamentary group comprising Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) will jointly put their candidates for the slots of Speaker and Deputy Speaker. However, the two parties’ alliance has yet to announce the names of their candidates.

Sources said that the election of the leader of the house is expected on 17 August. The nomination for the leader of the house will be submitted on August 15 and according to the rules voting will be held for the leader of house after two days of submitting nomination papers.

Meanwhile, the election commission of Pakistan has allotted reserved seats in National Assembly, provincial assemblies and minorities on Saturday.

According to the ECP, one female reserved seat was allotted to each Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Pakistan Tehreek Insaf, MMA and Balochistan National Party (BNP-M).

In the provincial assembly 10 out of 11 reserved women seats were also allotted to the parties in Balochistan Assembly.

According to ECP, Balochistan Awami Party, which have 19 seats after joining of four independent MPAs to the party got four women reserved seats and one reserved minority seat that increased the strength of BAP 24 in
the house 65.

Balochistan National Party-Mengal got two women and one minority seat. MMA were allotted two women and one Minority seat. PTI and Awami National Party could get one women reserved seat each. The 11th women reserved seat’s decision would be held through toss between BNP-Awami and PTI.
