QUETTA:  The Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice Retired Javed Iqbal has indicated that bureau is initiating action against two former Balochistan Chief Ministers on corruption and misuse of powers.

Speaking at a seminar, here on Wednesday, he said that inquiry against one former chief minister has almost completed while inquiry against the other former minister has been started.

Caretaker Chief Minister Allauddin Marri, Chief Secretary Balochistan, DG NAB Balochistan Mirza Muhammad Irfan Baig, IG Police and other senior officials attended the seminar against corruption. The NAB Chairman on the occasion handed over the documents of property and keys of vehicles worth billions of rupees, confiscated by bureau in Finance Department mega corruption case to the Chief Minister.

Justice Javed Iqbal said that NAB has zero tolerance against corruption and would not hesitate to take legal action against all corruption officers and other elements without any discrimination in the country. “Now the action would be started from top to bottom and without considering the corrupt officials status and influence,” Justice Javed Iqbal warned.

He said that billions of rupees were looted from the national exchequer and shifted aboard for purchasing precious property. “All money looted by the officials and other elements would be brought back to the country shifted by these elements in different countries.

He said that bureaucracy must change its attitude as the era of “Badshahat” has been over and everyone involved in loot and plundering national wealth would be made accountable.

The NAB chairman deplored that the governments did nothing for providing drinking water, health facilities and construction of roads in the province. He said that asking question from the corrupt elements about corruption is not politics, “I consider it warship.”

He said that inquiry against corrupt elements is not victimization as NAB has nothing to do with election. “We will not take any step, which hurt the self respect of any person,” Justice Iqbal said, adding that NAB was taking every step according to the law.

He said that asking about irregularities in spending public money was not a sin and if it is sin the NAB would continue to do so.

Referring the sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan, he said that if governments had spent the funds of Usher and Zakat on the development of Balochistan, the deprivation of the people of Balochistan would have removed. He expressed the hope that the huge amount retuned back to Balochistan after recovering from the officials involved in mega corruption case of Finance Department would be spent on the welfare of the people of Balochistan.
