The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the dismissal of NADRA Chairperson Usman Mobin and the federal interior secretary.

The PTI further asked for the removal of the provincial home secretaries, secretary interior and home ministers along with the chief secretaries already under change as per the ECP’s directives. The commission on Tuesday wrote to the Establishment Division seeking a reshuffle in provincial chief secretaries and all inspector-generals.

The letter was penned by PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry. “Impartial, transparent and honest holding of elections is a constitutional charge and the basic responsibility of election commission of Pakistan,” said Fawad. “The PTI is the most popular party and a symbol of the people’s will.”

The party spokesperson further said that they were grateful of the ECP’s decision to change all four secretaries and IGs after the PTI pointed it out. More mandatory than other necessities of holding an election is that the election commission purifies the machinery that conducts the election, he added.

However, Chaudhry believes transfers are not an adequate measure for spotless transparent elections. Officers with the best image, experience and professional ability must be appointed, he added in the letter.

“Election commission must also trace out the nexus between the former government and certain heads of government institutions.”
