QUETTA: The National Commission of Human Rights (NCHR) latest report said that 509 people of Hazara community killed and 627 sustained injuries in various sectarian-based incidents in Quetta during last five years.

The report titled ‘Understanding the Agonies of Ethnic Hazara’ revealed disturbing facts about the killing of Hazara Community in Balochistan. The home department of Balochistan demonstrated the lists related to the incidents of Hazara killing in Quetta.

The member of NCHR, Fazila Haliyani, while her press conference said numerous precious lives lost in Quetta since last five years.

However, Member of Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) Bostan Ali Kishmand denied to accept the NCHR report, said the actual figures are much higher than the one showed in NCHR’s report. He said, “More than 200 Hazara were killed only in two suicide attacks in this period,”

According to NCHR’s report, the bomb blasts, suicide attacks, targeted killings have badly damaged the routine life of ethnic Hazara community in Quetta. The continuous terror-related incidents forced the Hazara students to abandon their studies and hazara community to migration.

Further the report mentions that 19 platoons of Frontier Corps were deployed at Marri Abad and Hazara Town—the areas where Hazara community largely reside— to ensure their protection.

In the aftermath of repeated acts of terrorism against Hazara community, additional arrangements have been made for the security of Shia pilgrims travelling from Quetta to Taftan.

The report further denied community-based conflict between Baloch and Pashtoon communities residing in the areas. It quoted a National Party senator, Kabir Muhammad Shahi, saying that “there has been no issue of Balochs or Pashtuns with Hazaraz in Balochistan”.

Likewise, the report also quoted Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Senator Usman Kakar, who said, Pashtuns have always helped the Hazara community and would do continue to do so.

The report highlighted the role of media towards the persecution of the Hazara community in Balochistan. The respondents in the report said that international media is more supportive rather than national media.
