ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court is set to announce the verdict on the petitions seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and secretary general Jahangir Khan Tareen on Friday.

According to apex court’s registrar office, the judgement will be announced at 2:00pm.

The apex court had reserved its judgment on two petitions filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi on November 14.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar headed the three-member bench, comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial that heard the case.

While Akram Sheikh and Azid Nafees argued on behalf of the petitioner, Naeem Bukhari advocated for Imran Khan and Sikandar Bashir Mohmand on behalf of Tareen.

The bench conducted more than 50 hearings for over a year.

In his concluding remarks while reserving the judgement last month, the chief justice vowed that the court would look into all aspects of each and every account and find out who was speaking the truth.

Days after the court reserved its judgement, the PTI chief had said he would quit politics if the SC disqualified him.

“I have submitted the entire money trail. However, if any of my money trails proves to be fake, I shall leave politics. If I am disqualified, I shall not use clause 203 to continue as president of the party. I shall leave politics in that case,” Imran said during a televised interview on Express News.

“Whether Jahangir Tareen or I, whosoever is disqualified, will not remain in the party,” he added.
