QUETTA: The newly appointed Commander of Southern Command, Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa take over his new responsibilities after handing over the command by outgoing Commander, Lt. General Aamir Riaz in ceremony held here on Friday.

QUETTA: The newly appointed Commander of Southern Command, Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa take over his new responsibilities after handing over the command by outgoing Commander, Lt. General Aamir Riaz in ceremony held here on Friday.

The impressive ceremony of the change of command was held in the Headquarters of Southern Command. The Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, provincial minister Nawab Jhangez Khan Marri, GOCs of 41 and 33 Garrisons, Inspector General Frontier Corps, Major General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, Chief  Secretary Aurangzeb Haq, senior military officers and civil officers, acting IG Police Muhammad Ayub Qureshi, CCPO Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema and others attended the ceremony.
General Aamir Riaz, who would take over as Corps Commander Lahore also handed over command stick to General Asim Saleem Bajwa.
Speaking at the gathering, the outgoing Commander Southern Command, Lt. General Aamir Riaz offered olive branch to the disgruntled elements, who are still at the mountainous, and said that those who wanted to join mainstream, the government welcome them as honorable citizens of the country.
“We will give them warm welcome with the status of honorable citizen who wanted come back from the mountainous,” he said, adding that with the joint efforts of military and civil leadership, security forces and support of civil society peace was returned to Balochistan.
He spoke at length about the situation, the province had faced and said that law and order was restored up to great extent which paved the way for making progress in the province. “Balochistan faced lot challenges and a difficult situation, but with the blessing of God and joint efforts made by civil and military leadership and security forces succeeded to face these challenges,” General Riaz said.
However, he said that the province was still facing some difficulties, but would be overcome soon as efforts were in progress in this regard. He said that the enemy using all tactics to harm Pakistan and striking at easy target as they did the other day and targeted innocent people through suicide bombing in remote area of Balochistan. “Though we are passing through war like situation, but we decided not to give up and fight against the elements wanted to harm our country,” General Aamir Riaz, the newly appointed Corps Commander Lahore said.
