Lyari has become overpopulated and emerged as a huge slum of Karachi. Indeed mushrooming growth of newly constructed highrise building are the causes of water shortage, low gas pressure and electricity problems that residents have been facing in recent years.

Albeit prohibition of no more than three floors builders have been constructing seven to eight floors building with impunity. They are violating the ban with the help of corrupt and dishonest officers of the Building Control Authority.

In absence of planning for rapidly growing population of Karachi from Sindh and Federal government though construction business has become extremely lucrative as last ten years are witnessed mushrooming growth of tallest buildings around the city.

Although Lyari is a big slum of Karachi the vote bank of PPP has been backward as compared to the rest of the city particularly middle class dominated areas where a lot of development works have done by their representatives. In past Benazir led-PPP had a manifesto to make Lyari a Paris suburb but now opposition often claim once we get elected we will make Lyari, Nazimabad the constituency of MQM.

Meanwhile as experts warned that Pakistan will have water scarcity problem as the South Asian country dry up by 2025. The policy makers are negligence about an impending water crisis that is posing a serious threat.  The residents of Lyari are facing serious water scarcity problem.  Thar, a drought region, where women and children have to cover miles Ali Muhammad Muhallah Kalri, the constituency of MPA Javed Nagori representative of PPP where tap water is remained a distance dream for the local residents.

Moreover flats are sold from fifteen to twenty lakh rupees in each newly constructed building of Lyari empty plots and disputed properties have fallen at the hand of greedy investors if residents resist investor would resort to local mobs whom threat the resident because of getting sum of money as minority community near Lea Market were browbeaten and compelled to get meager amount to leave their homes as location was ideal for building purpose where four project can be made.

Finally investors have succeeded one out of four expected building has completed but clean drinking water from tap remained distance dream for new settler though builders did not left anything for flat owners just crying and cursing because each of us know that people are extremely poor in Lyari although they sold their gold and homes to buy flats.

Eventually Lyari is Baloch dominated population they are traditionally obliged to live in open space where home must have veranda or ample of space.  The growing population and urbanization are the causes of mushrooming growth of buildings as population is increasing rapidly. Therefore, a family of four or five people will have to leave their ancestor homes to buy flats to share the space with family members in this entire episode. Families sacrifice a lot but get disillusioned by building mafias as they showcase their project to buyer before digging the plot, generator, clean drinking water are promised but once buyer get settled they will not have any option just cursing themselves.

Therefore, the government has to start housing schemes on installment basis for poor and employees segment can get home as Benazir led-PPP allotted plots to widow near Hawkes Bay on the name of 500 quarter widow colony but astonishingly occupied by PPP senior workers as Benazir manifesto to provide home to needy and poor people were ruined by senior PPP workers.

Lyari desperately needs a housing scheme to share the population Sindh government should brainstorm how to start it beside greedy builders will make Lyari ugliest part of Karachi.
