Lyari, located in south of Karachi is well known locality worldwide because of its diversity, culture, sports and art. It has produced big names for Pakistan, either it is football, boxing or art but the problem they always faced was negligence.

This small town was home for ideological politics, leaders of Balochistan, KPK and from other parts of Pakistan had offices here because they thought it is the best place for them to exceed their politics with the help of young talented workers and experienced intellectuals.

Even BSO (Baloch Students Organization) was created in Lyari, when Baloch students were suffering the most and they required a platform. But overall Peoples Party was the one which has succeeded to win the hearts of Lyarians. But how is Lyari now? And what made Lyari to be what it is? It is not discussed in mainstream because it may hurt the owners of Multinational companies those are running the corporate media under the surveillance of those elites.

Lyari’s condition is like an orphan kid living with a bourgeois family. Political parties backed gangsters, discrimination, and calling some of them from inferior race is always been the policy of Government but they always said “Zinda hai Bhutto” and voted for Pakistan People’s Party. PPP never lost any seat from Lyari even it was tenure of Pervaiz Musharraf or Nawaz Sharif, people always willingly voted just on the name of “Bhutto”.

This craze and love is going towards hate because of their own blunders in governance and negligence towards the historical part of Karachi where people from all race, religion, cast and language are living together since a long time.

Footballers are seen more active in social media and public places while protesting for their rights. The departmental football teams are being closed gradually because Football Federation is in conflict and two groups are in catfight and the Pakistan Premiere League is not happening from couple of years.

Local footballers are getting unemployed and are forced to do manual labour on daily wages just because of corrupt Federation and its bureaucrats. Despite that a question rises on departments like HBL those are sponsoring highly expensive cricket leagues like PSL but few low paid football players are burden over them.

Zahid Ali an unemployed football player hailing from Karachi Mohammadan Football club told that, “My Father took me to ground when I started to walk and run and now I am 40 with no job, I am not the only one here you will find more than five such stories in every single street,”

Whenever we discuss players and football, we remember the Bizenjo Chowk Blast where small kids and young boys became victims of gangsters’ conflict. A journalist called it “death of innocence” while president of FIFA also condemned that. That street night football tournament which was organized yearly in the month of Ramadan was claimed to be protest to administration for return of their old football ground of Bizenjo Chowk which was demolished twenty five years ago.

Sajid Baloch, one of the organizers and eye witness of blast told that “we made that tournament happen as protest to show the people in power that our kids need their ground back.” That ground was demolished during the time of Khaliq Jumma to make it a market which was opposed by the locals but who can stop the people in power? Neither that market was made nor was the ground spared at that time.

There was nothing except a single floor of incomplete construction where drug addicts use to enjoy their worst satisfactions. Notwithstanding some people mentioned that dead bodies were also found there.

After twenty five years, a week ago DMC south Karachi’s chairman Malik Fayyaz along his colleagues was making visits to different areas, when they reached Rexer Line, women and kids were shouting again and again for that football ground as a protest.

He directly ordered to call bulldozers and demolish that uncompleted market and promised to residents that they will get their ground back. Direct orders and instant reaction of Malik Fayyaz was looking like a scene from Bollywood movie because people have never witnessed anything like that.

Some people are appreciating the measure while some are calling it a card of PPP played for upcoming general elections. On a neutral stance, who will not support a step of demolishing the home of drug addiction and turning it back to the old shape for sports activities? Most of the criticism was seen from the local activists of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) which is still confused to bring out a proper manifesto and a party flag. Indeed a single football ground cannot heal the deep wounds of hundreds of dead bodies but let’s appreciate a commendable step.

Meanwhile, the condition of education and least institutes is turned out to be worst in Lyari, there are mere or equal to none schools those have even limited facilities for children. Some of the colleges were build and constructed properly but nowadays they are seen to be headquarters of rangers. Neither lectures nor lecturers but young soldiers with long boots are found in the colleges and institutes. Why they are kept illiterate? Why the town of intellectuals is presenting a scene of stone ages? It seems Bhutto’s name will do a miracle for youth.

Benzair Bhutto Shaheed University was the only good thing they did with residents, but how about the schools and colleges? When education is too expensive under the system of capitalism, everyone is not able to make his child study in any good institute therefore the majority is drowning in incompetency. How sad it is that Lyari which was center of left-wing some decades ago but now students are unaware about Vladimir Lenin. The only reason is elites have taken education so far from the lower class that they even don’t think of their children to be at an appropriate position in future.

Some of the great hypocrites may mention it like discrimination with any specific language speaking people but actually there are people from all belongings, either they are Muslims or Hindus, Baloch or Kachhi, mistreatment is being done with all of them because they belong to proletariat class. And a profit making corrupt system for few can’t be beneficial for them at all.

The current political scenario for ruling parties is seen worst because the hate for PPP, and no acceptance of others is showing that next elections will be held with least turnout from public. For sure they are not interested in knowing the new Mustafa Kamal or the old one and Asifa Bhutto cannot be like Benazir Bhutto for them.

“There is no alternate at all that is why PPP always win from Lyari, and our youth has lost all interest in politics therefore nothing comes up from their side,” Mahrukh Baloch, a home tutor and student of M-Phil English Literature told.

Bilawal’s scripted speeches or Asifa’s tweets cannot make them leaders just because their maternal grandfather was Bhutto. People are not living in old ages of monarchy but a leg broken democracy exists somehow. The time has arrived that youth should come up to decide what there politics should be if the politics is deciding their future.

Politics is not for some specific people because it deals with the ruling system of all, youth, labors, sportsmen all have to understand the ground realities and choose the correct way for them and their upcoming generations otherwise opportunism has always victimized the mentality of common man. The consequences are turned out to be in hand of youth, either they want change or they want to see their rich town remain poor.
