The corruption case against the Sharif family had entered its final phases as the Supreme Court is regularly hearing the case with utmost seriousness to give a verdict after hearing both sides.

Counsel from PTI, Jamaat-i-Islami and Sheikhs Rasheed had completed their arguments before the Supreme Court. Defence counsel of the Prime Minister also concluded his argument and now the Ishaq Dar counsel is arguing the case.

Hopefully, by the weekend, the arguments will be complete allowing the Supreme Court Bench to reserve the judge till the judges write their verdict before it is announced.

The main charge against Nawaz Sharif and his children is that they failed to prove the money trail of the huge property they raised in London and elsewhere.

Secondly, the family is living beyond its known sources of income and it is incompatible.

Federal Ministers and Muslim League leaders did not touch both these points and claim that there was no corruption charge against the Prime Minister.

There is no proof that the Prime Minister had received commission or kickbacks or he had misused his official powers for personal or family benefits.

During the hearing, one of the judges remarked that prove the money trail and the case is over.

The Judge said on record that Sharif family failed to bring the money trail before the JIT and the Court and the family was given fair chances to satisfy the court so that the case should be closed.

The family missed the chances and hiding the real ownership of the flat in which Nawaz Sharif used to live frequently during his visits in London. “Even he is unaware that who is the owner of the flat,” one of the judges remarked during the court proceedings.

Political opponents pointed out that the Sharif family owned a small foundry till 1980s and from that single foundry, Sharifs built 28 mills and factories all over Pakistan besides amassing huge wealth in London and elsewhere in the world.

It was possible only by misusing the State and official powers for the personal benefit, they claimed.

They cited the examples of score of the Gujarati billionaires of Karachi who brought billions with them from India when they migrated to Pakistan along with their skill and experience as industrialists and reputable traders in world market.

After decades, they are all missing from the business scene of Pakistan for the past many decades as they enjoyed no role in the State affairs or planning and development of this country.

On the contrary, industrialists and traders from Punjab wielded more power and say in the State affairs and people like Nawaz Sharif was chosen to rule the Province first and later on the whole country for the past three decades.

They were allowed to use state power in building personal empire.

There are thousands of billionaires in the Punjab because the State had patronized the businessmen and industrialists from the Punjab with their access to state power whenever they needed.

The State had also diverted the massive funds for development of Punjab when Sharif family was inducted into power ignoring the least developed areas of Pakistan.

There is a report that thousands of industrialists had imported brand new machineries of the factories under the cover of scrap using the unscrupulous businessmen to evade legitimate taxes to the State of Pakistan.

The record tampering was proved. The SECP chief had been framed in a criminal case tampering Government records in favour of the Sharifs. He is facing the charges in a court of law and presently he is on an interim bail.

Now the political confrontation is visible between the PML and its political opponents as they are planning to take the streets seeking early resignation from the Prime Minister. The Pakistan Bar Council has announced to launch a movement seeking resignation of the Prime Minister.

They called for countrywide strike besides plan to hold lawyers Conventions. They also boycotted the court proceedings.

Thus a lot of heat generated in politics taking the country towards the path of confrontation which is not a good omen for Pakistan and its people.
