The Panama case has entered its final phases as the Supreme Court of Pakistan has resumed the proceedings for a final verdict in the corruption scandal. The PML-N and its leaders had filed a petition challenging the JIT Report in the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, the PML leaders and their allies are leveling wild allegations against the JIT and its members claiming that they were bias and adopted a discriminatory attitude toward the PM and his sons while questioning them.

For this the PML leaders and their allies are targeting the JIT presumably to bring the Supreme Court Bench under pressure for a favourable verdict.

It is a fact that JIT had not assumed all the powers at its own to start investigation against the PM, his children for amassing huge wealth and involved in money laundering, the two main charges they are facing. It was the Supreme Court of Pakistan that formed the JIT, selected officials from different State institutions, all public servants.

The SECP Chief was found tampering with the official records in favour of the PM and his children, Zafar Hijazi, who is son of Nasim Hijazi, a famous novelist. A case had been registered against him for tampering the official records in favour of Sharif Family and he is on interim bail from the Islamabad High Court pending charges before a trial court.

He is still retained his official job and the Minister of Finance had not removed him even after registering the criminal case on the orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It indicates the defiance on the part of the PML-N Government. However, Mr. Itezaz Ahsan, a leading lawyer, had demanded that the record tampering case should be registered against the Prime Minister.

In the meantime, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Hasil Bizenjo and Mahmood Achakzai had come out in defence of the Prime Minister. Bizenjo and Maulana Fazlur Rehman had made the JIT the target of their attacks using very strong words against the JIT members, including two senior officials from the prime security agencies of the country.

They claimed that there were no corruption charges against the Prime Minister. But they forget that the Prime Minister is facing the prime charge of amassing huge wealth and living beyond his means and the second important charge of money laundering.

PM and his sons are accused of sending money to outside world illegally and transferring wealth to Middle East or Europe. The Prime Minister and his sons failed to satisfy the investigators on two prime charges of amassing huge wealth and money laundering. The PM had never faced the charge of getting commission or kickbacks.

The Prime Minister also failed to produce his prime witness the Qatari Prince before the investigators to verify the money trail. There is a chance that the Prime Minister can present the Qatar Prince before the Bench of the Supreme Court to respond to a volley of questions before the court. It seems that it is impossible that the Qatari Prince takes such a risk.

Following the categorical JIT report, the National Accountability Bureau has also decided to re-open all the 15 criminal cases of corruption against the Prime Minister. The cases were kept closed for over a decade on political pressure. A  formal decision had been taken to reopen those cases against the PM and his extended family involved in corrupt practices since they join politics.

The PML leaders and their political allies are mounting pressure on the Supreme Court by targeting the JIT and its members. Most of the allies used objectionable language in criticizing the JIT as they intended to bring the Supreme Court under pressure in this case.

There is a strong possibility that contempt of court case may be institute against the JUI and NP leaders for criticizing the JIT members. JIT was formed on the order of the Court. Both the leaders may face contempt of court charges along with four other PML-N leaders and Ministers and the separate cases may be clubbed to a single case of contempt of court.
