CHELSEA are reportedly looking to hijack Manchester City’s move for Monaco star Benjamin Mendy.

CHELSEA are reportedly looking to hijack Manchester City’s move for Monaco star Benjamin Mendy.

Pep Guardiola has been leading the chase for the left-back this summer and appeared to have won the race for his signature.

The 23-year-old left-back was due to have a medical earlier this week but haggling over the fee put a stop to that.

And the Telegraph are claiming that Antonio Conte’s Blues could snare Mendy from under the Citizens’ noses.

Sources from the French champions claim that the club have received an enquiry from Chelsea.

They have also asked to be kept informed on developments regarding the French international defender.

Conte has been linked with a move for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro but is unwilling to meet their asking price.

The ball still remains in City’s court and it remains to be seen whether they will up their offer to land him.

Mendy is four years younger than Walker and Monaco believe that he is a better player – hence their insistence on gaining at least a similar fee.

Monaco have proved to be tough negotiators this summer as Europe’s big clubs try to cherry pick their star men.

They have already sold Bernardo Silva to City and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea.

But they are hopeful of keeping hold of Thomas Lemar despite Arsenal’s persistence in the winger.

And they believe they can convince Kylian Mbappe to sign a new deal with the club despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, City and Real Madrid.
