Amidst unfavourable and utter precarious conditions in the schools and colleges, women and girls have still not lost hope.

It should not come as a surprise to anyone that four long years of the incumbent government have still not brought noticeable change in education.

Jaffarabad is one of the biggest districts of Balochistan, located on the border line of the Sindh. A report of the local NGO reveals that there are just two girls high schools in the constituency of PB 26 (Jaffarabad) where even the MPA is woman and belongs to the ruling party, PML-N.

There are just three Middle schools and single high school for girls in the city of Dera Allah Yar which speaks volumes about the seriousness of the quarters concerned regarding women education. The high school enrolls all the girls of those three Middle schools, therefore the strength goes over 80 per class.

How quality may be maintained in such crowded classes is at best left to readers to judge. Soon after the incumbent government was sworn in, it promised to keep education on its top-most agenda but things seem least improved on ground as no conspicuous change for the poor kids is discernable.

The schools in Jaffarabad run short of basic facilities which are required in educational institutions. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons contributing to the dropouts among girls.

The filthy water of the sewage line always enters the premises of the school because the main sewage line passes by the main gate of the school.

This poses health hazards to the students calling for the attention of the quarters concerned to answer as who would be responsible if health of any student get affected? A student from the Government Girls High School, Jaffarabad, Sadia Jamali said, “My father always stops me from going to school because of this unhygienic situation prevailing in schools; he wants to educate me but as a father he has to care about my health,” Even there are no computer and science labs in the institution where girls can perform their practical. Mostly girls in Jaffarabad take admission in science subjects but unfortunately there are no facilities for them to perform their due practical works, despite that the trend of just teaching according to the syllabus is also discouraging the young girls. Teachers need training of new teaching methods, which will help out in increasing the awareness of students as well.

“I have never performed any practical of biology in my all learning time, then how would I be able to compete with the girls of other developed areas during entry tests?” says Ruqaiya Baloch, a student of science in GGHS. The only girls’ high school is situated in the heart of the city area in Jaffarabad but it does not have any transportation facility for the girls those come from far flung areas of the district. Parents of those poor kids are not able to afford the transportation cost and it becomes another reason for those girls to quit their studies. According to the report of the local NGO, most of the area of the school premises requires utilization and proper construction of classrooms, science and computer labs.

The education ministry and MPA of that area are responsible for that, but it doesn’t seem that they had visited that school ever. The budget of 2017-18 is on head but can we expect any increase in the budget of education? Or as always the share of education will be deducted for law and order.

There is need of more allocation not just for construction but for quality education. The MPA belongs from PML-N and this party is expert in construction but let us see will there be even any construction in Jaffarabad GGHS or the manufacturing policy is just for institutions of Lahore.
