The World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is a two-day event annually observed every year on 9th and 10th of May by United Nations to highlight the need to protect migratory birds and their habitats. The United Nations is known as one of the many organizations which support this global awareness campaign. Each year, the people around the world take action and organize public events such as bird festivals, education programmes and bird-watching excursions to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day. The event was created to help turn the world’s attention towards the wonders of bird migration and the need for their conservation. Every year, the total number of registered World Migratory Bird Day events has steadily increased along with the number of countries in which these events occurred.

In fact, Pakistan gets a large number of guest birds from the Europe, Central Asian States and Indiaevery year. The birds from North spend winters in different wetlands and deserts of Pakistan, which are distributed almost throughout the country. About one million birds used to migrate from Siberia every year. However, the topography and climate of Pakistan’s province of Baluchistan has an attractive attraction to migratory birds coming from the freezing Central Asian republics and Siberia, within this area the Nag Rakshan Valley provides the favorite food for the Houbara Bustard – a species at the brink of extinction. On WMBD 2010 the Houbara Protection Organization (HPO) had organized a walk to raise awareness among the communities of Nag Rakshan Valley and the need for conservation of this rare bird.

According to the World Wide Fund (WWF) that, many sites of birds depend on are under threat from human activities, thereby posing a grave risk to migratory bird species and hunting of migratory birds should be banned. Since, bird rights activist and social workers Abdul Mannan has urged the need to do more to conserve these species across the country, otherwise, it would have very negative impact on wild life survival. So, the experts have estimated that the number of these migratory are entering Balochistan is about 15,000-20,000. The birds only take seven to ten days while covering about 5,500 kilometers from Siberia and Central Asian Republic to Balochistan and files at a height of 4,000 meters. Previously, the government of Pakistan was planning to take steps to make journey of migratory birds safe by controlling hunting of birds in the country. The migratory birds start their journey from Siberia in September /October and begin returning to their native areas by the end of March or start of April.

So, It is my humble request to the government to ban hunting birds in order to make the migratory birds save in the entire country.
